Background Grant Hassan

OUR TEAM

I understand and recognise that disputes relating to family law often involve life-changing events that can be stressful and traumatic. Speaking about these issues can be hard. I feel it is vital to listen attentively to my clients to really understand their needs and aspirations. Each case is unique and requires careful consideration and attention.

I am also well aware that the expense involved in instructing a solicitor can be daunting. Our Family Team consciously strives to provide value for money and transparency around costs.

I am based in our Inverness office from where I assist clients located across the north of Scotland. I am regularly instructed by clients in the Highlands, Moray, Caithness and Lochaber, Isle of Skye and the Western Isles. Being part of the wider team at Harper Macleod enables me to draw on input from colleagues across Scotland, blending our collective expertise with knowledge of the local community in which I live and practise.

I advise on all aspects of family law. I am particularly interested in and have expertise in helping clients resolve the financial aspects of a separation or divorce that involve complex financial arrangements such as business interests or pensions. This includes advising on separation and divorce, separation agreements and the division of matrimonial property and financial provision.

I am a holistic in my approach and well versed in dealing with cases involving a number of family law issues, such as care arrangements for children or domestic abuse involving residence, custody, contact, access and relocation.

I recognise situations where cases require the expertise from outside professionals such as accountants, financial advisers and solicitors specialising in other areas of law. I see the benefit to my clients in working collaboratively where appropriate to achieve the best outcome for my clients.

I regularly advise on; cohabitation disputes & cohabitation agreements, pre & post nuptial agreements, parental rights and responsibilities, and adoption.

I regularly write articles and online content on various aspects of Family Law. I also deliver regular training and seminars on family law topics.

I am able to offer an alternative form of dispute resolution working alongside other professionals to assist his clients resolving their differences with limited conflict and dignity.  As a firm believer in the benefits of Collaborative Practice as an alternative form of dispute resolution, I sit on the National Committee of Consensus Scotland, who are responsible for further promotion and development Collaborative Law in Scotland.

I am a member of the Family Law Association, an organisation committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes in Scotland. I previously assisted in the operation of the Children’s Contact Centre in Inverness. I am a Notary Public and registered with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

I was shortlisted for the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ award at the Scottish Legal Awards in 2018 in recognition of my hard work and dedication to clients and my area of practice.
