Harper Macleod LLP has been shortlisted in the category of Commercial Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards.
Harper Macleod is one of only two Scottish firms shortlisted on the night, and will be up against Addleshaw Goddard, Covington & Burling, Eversheds, Herbert Smith Freehills and RPC in their category at the event, which takes place on 27 November at Old Billingsgate Market in London.
One of the key elements of the commercial team's work this year came in its role advising the Organising Committee of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Harper Macleod was appointed Legal Advisers to Glasgow 2014 in 2011 and provided legal advice and support to the Games in relation to all legal services required to stage the largest ever global multi-sporting event to take place in Scotland.
The team advised on a wide range of matters, including commercial contracts, employment, property, construction, intellectual property and technology, brand protection, sponsorship, broadcasting rights, anti-doping, litigation, public procurement, state aid and competition law, data protection, capacity and vires issues and strategic and corporate governance.
As well as the team working throughout the firm, Harper Macleod had six secondees within the Glasgow 2014 in-house legal department.
Professor Lorne Crerar, Chairman of Harper Macleod, said: "We are delighted to top off what has been a fantastic year for the firm with this recognition at a UK-wide level. Acting as Legal Advisers to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games was a unique opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities. Helping to pull off what has been widely regarded as the best even Games was reward in itself, but to have our efforts recognised in this way is extremely gratifying, and a tribute to the hard work, dedication and talent of our lawyers."
