The only independent Scottish law firm to make the cut, Harper Macleod is in contention for prizes in Best Strategic Leadership and Most Innovative Use of Social Media at the 12th annual MPF Awards for Management Excellence, which will take place at the London Marriott, Grosvenor Square on 12 March.

The MPF awards, supported by Harvard Business Review, Financial Times and Google, represent the very best of professional firm management in the UK, and form an integral part of the MPF International Management Excellence Summit.

In the Most Innovative Use of Social Media category, sponsored by Google, Harper Macleod – who registered record turnover of £21 million last year - is one of five on an impressive shortlist alongside international law firms Eversheds, Bird & Bird and Olswang – with a combined turnover £736 million – and Keystone Law.

In the Best Strategic Leadership category, sponsored by Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, Harper Macleod is one of eight candidates alongside major law firms and accountancy practices including Bird & Bird and BDO.

Harper Macleod Chief Executive Martin Darroch said: "We are extremely proud to have been shortlisted for these two awards, which go right to the heart of what we are about as a business – strategic leadership and innovation. In an environment where it's not enough to simply go about your business as you always have, this recognition is testament to our peoples' continuing drive to improve and deliver the best service we can to our clients.

"You only need to see the other names alongside ours on the full shortlist to see this represents the cream of professional firms in the UK, and for a firm of our size to be among them is a real achievement. I'm on the record as saying that to win at the MPF Awards is transformational and our business has benefited from success there in the past – hopefully we'll have something more to celebrate on 12 March."

Harper Macleod has previously tasted success the MPF Awards, winning the Best Managed Firm and People Management awards in 2009, and being runner-up in the client service category, while in 2008 it was runner-up in the Best Managed Firm and Best HR Initiative sections.

The 2014 awards will be hosted by impressionist and comedian Jon Culshaw, of Dead Ringers and Radio 4's The Now Show fame.
