Harper Macleod LLP, one of Scotland's leading law firms, has been appointed as legal advisers to the Student Loans Company (SLC).
The contract, which sees Harper Macleod appointed with DLA Piper to a new external legal panel, will cover a wide range of areas from technology to corporate issues, and debt recovery to commercial property.
The SLC, headquartered in Glasgow, is the Government-owned organisation set up in 1989 to provide loans and grants to students in universities and colleges across the UK. It has 1.3 million student customers and 2.8 million customers no longer in higher education.
The panel will provide a full range of legal services to support the SLC's in-house legal team in its work across the UK and EU for the next two years, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.
Partner James McMorrow led Harper Macleod's bid. He said: "We are delighted to be appointed as legal advisers to the Student Loans Company. Our team looks forward to working with SLC's in-house legal team to support them in meeting their strategic and operational objectives.
"This is a tremendous win for us and is testament to the quality of our people, the breadth of our legal capacity, and the advice, support and counsel we are able to provide. We look forward to working with the SLC in the coming years and are sure our relationship will go from strength to strength."
Shareen Gault, Legal and Compliance Manager of the Student Loans Company said: "We are delighted to appoint our new legal panel and look forward to working with them. We believe our new legal panel strengthens the internal legal team's experience and expertise in the delivery of pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice that will ensure a safe, efficient and customer focussed student finance cycle."
