Harper Macleod's sport team retain top legal position in Chambers UK

Respected legal directory, Chambers UK, today published its annual rankings which detail the top players in the legal industry. The Scotland section of the 2013 directory reveals that leading law firm Harper Macleod LLP's Sport team has retained top tier status, with Partners Lorne Crerar, Rod McKenzie, Bruce Caldow and Michael Nicholson regarded as 'Leaders in the Field" of Sport. Earlier this month, Harper Macleod was also ranked in the top tier for Sport in the UK's other leading legal directory, the Legal 500.

Chambers UK says about the firm: "Harper Macleod has long been a trailblazer for sports law in Scotland, and it remains the undisputed heavyweight of Scottish sports law. Its members have an unparalleled breadth and depth of expertise, and major clients from within Scottish sport continue to turn to the group for the full raft of legal needs, including regulatory, disciplinary, governance and commercial."

Harper Macleod was recently appointed as legal advisers to Glasgow 2014 Limited to provide advice in relation to the full scope of legal services required to stage the largest ever global multi-sporting event to take place in Scotland.

Harper Macleod's Chief Executive, Martin Darroch, commented: "Our appointment to Glasgow 2014 is a defining moment in the firm's history and one which we believe will not only benefit us, but also the whole of Scotland, as Games time approaches. We are very pleased that this is confirmed by our ranking in the latest Chambers UK and also Legal 500, which both provide independent acknowledgement of the firm's continuing position at the top of the Scottish sport legal sector."

Harper Macleod has played key roles in a number of major contracts and agreements for the Games and has four of its lawyers seconded to Commonwealth House working within the Games' legal department.

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg said: "Successful delivery of a multi-sport international event requires not only the expertise of a high quality legal services firm, but also a firm that is the right corporate fit for an Organising Committee. Harper Macleod has aligned its business objectives with our own, supporting the Games through shared aspirations, ambitions and passion for sport. As Legal Advisors to the Games, Harper Macleod has provided clear, balanced and commercial advice that has ensured they are an essential part of the Glasgow 2014 team on its journey to the Games."
