The UN climate conference in Glasgow at the end of last year had a specific focus on cities, regions and buildings.  This is because the built environment contributes around 40%of global carbon emissions. With a host of new commitments and pledges having been made, pressure will be on the real estate industry to make its decarbonisation commitments a reality. How buildings are constructed, maintained and operated will inevitably change and innovate as occupiers, lenders, insurers, investors and regulators all push towards net zero carbon.
