Harper Macleod has successfully represented a male cyclist who was seriously injured in a road traffic collision whilst travelling in the north side of Glasgow.
The client was travelling on his bicycle when a transit van, travelling in the opposite direction, carried out a right turn manoeuvre directly into the path of the cyclist. The cyclist was unable to take evasive action and was knocked off his bicycle.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist sustained fractures to his upper limbs as well as significant anxiety whilst travelling on his bicycle. This prevented him from getting back on his bike for a period of time. As well as his physical injuries, the client’s bike was damaged beyond repair along with his helmet, mudguards and bicycle lights. The client used his bike to travel to work and as a result of no longer having his bike, the client had to arrange alternative transport and thus incurred travelling expenses.
Harper Macleod intimated the claim which included losses for the cyclist’s physical injuries but also the damage to his bicycle and accessories as well as travelling expenses and treatment costs.
Liability was immediately admitted and Harper Macleod proceeded to ingather medical evidence to support his injuries. Once the medical evidence was disclosed, a settlement was achieved in excess of £7000.
The Lawyer, who represented the client stated at the conclusion of the case:
“At Harper Macleod, we are regularly contacted by cyclists who have been involved in similar accidents. There is definitely a worrying pattern emerging and it is important that drivers are aware of cyclists when out on the road. All road users must understand the dangers and risks involved and driving behaviours must be adapted accordingly to ensure avoidable accidents do not occur.”
