Harper Macleod Chief Executive Martin Darroch was one of the first people to get his hands on the fantastic new Baton which will take centre stage as the Queen’s Baton Relay travels the globe.
The new design – hand-crafted from titanium, wood and granite - was unveiled to the public at an event at the Riverside museum on tonight. The baton will carry a message from The Queen, calling the athletes of the Commonwealth to Glasgow for the 2014 Games.
The journey officially begins on 9 October at a ceremony in BuckinghamPalace before journeying across the 70 nations and territories before arriving back in Scotland in June.
The design, Glasgow’s 4c Design Limited, was unveiled as for Olympic 100m champion Allan Wells formally presented it to Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of Glasgow 2014. Wells was the final batonbearer at the last Commonwealth Games on Scottish soil in Edinburgh in 1986.
