Harper Macleod Tops the Scoreboard with Scotland
Leading commercial law firm Harper Macleod is to host Scotland's first National Sports Law Conference at Celtic Park next month. Organised in association with the British Association for Sports and the Law (BASAL), the conference will feature an international panel of speakers addressing a wide range of current issues affecting sports persons, businesses, federations and governing bodies.
Harper Macleod is well known as the first legal firm in Scotland to create a speciality in sports law and has acted for a host of national sporting bodies, including the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Rugby Union, European Rugby Cup Ltd, Six Nations Ltd, the Football Association Premier League (FAPL), the Football League and the International Rugby Board. The firm also acts on behalf of Celtic FC and has acted on behalf of numerous leading sports individuals, including Alain Baxter, Martin O'Neill, Paul Gascoigne, Chris Sutton, Craig Brown, Ally McCoist and Glenn Metcalfe.
Topics covered during the conference will include anti-doping, salary capping, human rights and insolvency and administration as well as a mock disciplinary hearing set in the context of foul play in a rugby match. The delegate list currently features national representatives from throughout sport, including attendees from Celtic plc, Hibernian F.C, Rangers F.C, Partick Thistle F.C, Rugby Football Union, Scottish Rugby Union, International Rugby Board, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Professional Football Association, Netball Scotland, Basketball Scotland and the Royal and Ancient.
