Harper Macleod Sports Specialist is Rising Star

Leading commercial law firm Harper Macleod LLP is celebrating after lifting the Rising Star of the Year Award at the recent Scottish Legal Awards 2006.

Litigation Associate Bruce Caldow received the award in recognition of his considerable expertise in the niche area of Sports law.  A former Trainee of the Year, Caldow has established himself as one of Scotland's leading players in Scottish Sports law and has been The Scottish Rugby Union's team lawyer for over three years.   He has also acted for, amongst others, the European Rugby Cup, Celtic plc, Motherwell Football and Athletic Club Ltd and Judoscotland.

As well as having over 24 articles published in the past two years, Bruce is also General Editor for the new forthcoming Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia title, "Sport and the Law".  He is listed as a 'leading individual' in Sports law and is rated as 'a dynamo lawyer' in Chambers Legal Directory (2006)

Harper Macleod is the only firm to receive three awards at this year's Scottish Legal Awards, recognising the strength and development of the firm in a number of areas. Following a closed-door discussion by the judging panel, Harper Macleod also took the award for Corporate Team of the Year and the coveted Firm of the Year 2006 award.

Managing Partner Professor Lorne Crerar commented; "The firm is tremendously proud to see Bruce win the award for Rising Star of the Year. He has shown considerable talent since joining us as a trainee in 2001 and it comes as no surprise to those of us who work with him that he has been singled out amongst his peers as one to watch for the future.  The firm prides itself on giving young talented lawyers the chance to shine and Bruce's award is a reflection of Harper Macleod's innovative and ambitious approach to nurturing its up and coming lawyers."
