Rural
Our Rural Group addresses the specific legal needs of those living and working in a rural environment. Important changes are taking place which affect the way we look at, and manage, the countryside. There are numerous and complex issues facing rural landowners today which provide a mix of new challenges and fresh opportunities.
In recent times, traditional farming operations, farms with diversified income streams and small rural businesses need to be particularly aware of the legislative restrictions and controls relevant to them in their specific sector. Such legislation can range from new environmental controls to increasing regulation by the Foods Standards Agency or the Climate Change Act which recently received royal assent.
Appointed since 2008 as the sole supplier of property management legal services to the Forestry Commission across Scotland, the firm has developed a broad range of specialisations that are particularly relevant to the needs of those operating within the rural sector.
In addition, our solicitors have wide experience in the acquisition and lease of farm land to be used for both farming and re-newable energy purposes, advising both borrowers and lenders in relation to agricultural securities, the purchase of and lease of fishing and mineral rights, advice in relation to agricultural land management and all property issues affecting the rural community.
Our Rural team work closely with our Energy and Natural Resources Sector Group, particularly in relation to the sale or acquisition of land for use for windfarms or other energy projects and has been involved in all stages of the development of renewable energy schemes. The group also has close links with our Private Client Department which represents landowners country wide.
Our Rural team advise on these and other legal needs of people whose livelihood is generated from the rural environment.
