Harper Macleod LLP welcomed over 100 attendees to the 13th National Housing Conference, with new Minister for Housing and Welfare, Margaret Burgess MSP, receiving an extremely positive response from the delegates.

The Minister, who was the conference's keynote speaker, set out the Scottish Government's key priorities for housing which included amongst others, the aim to deliver 30,000 affordable homes during the 5-year parliamentary term, a review of construction procurement, and responding to the changes to the welfare benefits system.

This year’s National Housing Conference (NHC), taking place on Thursday 8 November at the Dunblane Hydro Hotel, is shaping up to be one of the best yet and there is still time to reserve your place at the conference.

The 13th NHC aims to address key issues facing housing providers at a time of unprecedented challenge. The conference will be based around 10 key questions, six of which will be addressed in plenary session and four in breakout groups, to allow maximum opportunity for discussion and debate.

Harper Macleod LLP was the talk of the Law Awards of Scotland last night after winning four accolades at the prestigious ceremony in Glasgow.

Described by the judges as "being extremely good at what they do and playing to their strengths with continued excellence and innovation", the team collected the Law Firm of the Year (over 40 fee earners) for an amazing fifth time.

Following on from Harper Macleod’s recent announcement about its 14% growth in fee income, the leading law firm today announced the appointment of a new Partner, Gordon Hollerin.

Gordon has over 25 years' restructuring, corporate recovery and insolvency experience and is described by the leading independent legal directories as a "highly respected" figure in the market who "compares favourably with anyone". He advises banks and financial institutions, administrators and liquidators in large scale restructuring and insolvency assignments and supports some of the world’s top banks and financial institutions.

Tony brings to Harper Macleod substantial experience in acting for both lenders and borrowers in a wide range of transactions and sectors having acted for a range of well-known Scottish businesses and spent time on secondment in a non-legal role within the corporate and structured finance team of a major UK bank. He joins a team which already acts for some of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions.

More than 60 Highland business people gathered at the Glenmoriston Town House Hotel, Inverness, on Monday 12th March 2012 to hear about what it takes to have the winning formula. The event was organised by Harper Macleod LLP (the legal adviser to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games) and saw Inverness Caledonian Thistle Manager, Terry Butcher, and Scottish Olympian and Glasgow 2014 hopeful, Kathryn Evans, share their tips and experiences on what it takes to succeed. Delegates also heard from Business & Sports Language Behavioural Strategist Consultant, David Yeoman, and racing driver, Dave Newsham.

The event was fittingly held on Commonwealth Day and many of the delegates wore their trainers in support of Glasgow 2014’s ‘Sport Your Trainers’ campaign.

Harper Macleod law firm reveals programme for Scottish Highland Renewable Energy Conference


Scotland, Wednesday 22nd February 2012 ---  Leading law firm Harper Macleod LLP has announced the keynote speaker at its third Scottish Highland Renewable Energy Conference (SHREC) will be Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise & Tourism. Other presenters at the event, which takes place on 26th April 2012 in the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness, will be respected industry figures Martin Moran from the National Grid, Audrey MacIver of Highlands and Islands Enterprise and David Bone, Harper Macleod’s Head of Energy. Scottish Governing Bodies (SGBs) have a responsibility to govern, administer and deliver sports in Scotland, which includes managing regulations, developing coaches and athletes and organising and hosting competitions.

Glasgow 2014 has appointed leading commercial law firm Harper Macleod, as the first sponsor for the XX Commonwealth Games.
