At Harper Macleod, we're extremely proud to announce our most impressive year-end results to date. With turnover rising to £21m, we've seen our team grow to over 300 dedicated people. Without them, and the preeminent clients we work with day-to-day, this achievement would never have been possible.

Our turnover in 2012-13 was up by 9.5% over the previous year. Indeed, since the UK entered recession in 2008 we have seen our turnover grow by 46%.

Harper Macleod LLP, Legal Advisers to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, has recorded a 9.5% rise in fee income for the year-ending 31 March 2013.

Yet another year of rapid growth saw income rise from £19.1m to £21m. The firm saw its number of fee earners rise from 166 to 179, up 8% year-on-year, while the number of partners rose from 46 to 53, making it one of Scotland's largest legal partnerships.

The firm, Legal Advisers to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, was nominated in five categories at the glittering awards ceremony in the EICC last night, hosted by Dougie Vipond and Louise White.

The Scottish law firm behind the multi-million pound sale of contact centre giant HEROtsc has revealed that the deal helped its corporate team record its best ever year.

Harper Macleod LLP's team has concluded deals with a total value of more than half a billion pounds since the start of 2012, culminating in the deal to sell call-centre giant HEROtsc to the French-based Webhelp Group, one of the largest disposals in Scotland in recent times.

Harper Macleod has announced nine new appointments and promotions as part of its strategy for future growth into 2013.  The firm's sustainable growth strategy has seen it enhance its position within its key sectors over the last 12 months and cement its position as one of the country's leading law firms.

Within Harper Macleod, three Associates have been promoted to Partner: Heather Calderwood (Insurance); David Kerr (Litigation); and Katrina Ovenden (Real Estate).  In addition, two new Partners, Euan Pirie and Euan Mitchell, join the firm's Public Sector, Housing & Infrastructure Team, bringing over 35 years experience in major construction and infrastructure projects.

Harper Macleod LLP welcomed over 100 attendees to the 13th National Housing Conference, with new Minister for Housing and Welfare, Margaret Burgess MSP, receiving an extremely positive response from the delegates.

The Minister, who was the conference's keynote speaker, set out the Scottish Government's key priorities for housing which included amongst others, the aim to deliver 30,000 affordable homes during the 5-year parliamentary term, a review of construction procurement, and responding to the changes to the welfare benefits system.

Congratulations to Lucky Frame

Harper Macleod LLP are delighted to congratulate client Lucky Frame on their success at the Scottish BAFTAs. Lucky Frame won the Creative Scotland sponsored BAFTA in the "Game" category for their iOS game "Bad Hotel".

The Gaelic language, social media and the legal world have been brought together by Harper Macleod, one of Scotland’s largest law firms, with a new and unique twitter feed. 

Calum MacLeod, an Associate within the firm’s energy & natural resources team, who tweets under the twitter account @gaeliclawyer will provide legal updates and highlight relevant issues, in Scotland’s native tongue, Gaelic, and English.

Respected legal directory, Chambers UK, today published its annual rankings which detail the top players in the legal industry. The Scotland section of the 2013 directory reveals that leading law firm Harper Macleod LLP's Sport team has retained top tier status, with Partners Lorne Crerar, Rod McKenzie, Bruce Caldow and Michael Nicholson regarded as 'Leaders in the Field" of Sport. Earlier this month, Harper Macleod was also ranked in the top tier for Sport in the UK's other leading legal directory, the Legal 500.

Chambers UK says about the firm: "Harper Macleod has long been a trailblazer for sports law in Scotland, and it remains the undisputed heavyweight of Scottish sports law. Lesley Murphy, Partner within Harper Macleod's employment law team, will tackle the difficult subject of grievances and constructive dismissals at the upcoming Society of Personnel Directors Scotland (SPDS) Annual Conference on Friday 9 November.

Dealing with employee grievances can be a challenging and resource draining undertaking. Grievances can consume exorbitant amounts of management and HR time, with recent research highlighting that the time spent by organisations dealing with grievances is on the increase. In 1997 the average time spent by an organisation was nine days per grievance and this has increased to an average of 14.4 days today. Of all the grievances raised in the public sector, research has shown that some 81% are resolved internally, highlighting the significance of efficient grievance processes. Lesley will provide guidance on some of the commonest issues and how to best manage these situations in order to maximise the effectiveness of internal conflict resolution.

Supporting the amazing work undertaken by the WildHearts charity, Micro-Tyco runs throughout November and encourages companies and individuals to grab the entrepreneurial challenge with both hands.

Harper Macleod LLP, one of Scotland's largest law firms, and Accountants and business advisers, PKF have advised on a multi-million pound deal in which private equity backed fertility group Academic Reproductive Partnership (ARP) has acquired a majority stake in the Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine (GCRM) Limited, creating the largest single provider of both NHS and private IVF services in the UK.

This is ARP's third partnership in the UK having already merged with IVF Hammersmith and the Oxford Fertility Unit, with GCRM being the latest stage in an expansion of their services across the country.

Two new associates for Harper Macleod

Harper Macleod LLP, one of Scotland's largest law firms has made two new additions to their team, with the appointment of Associates Calum MacLeod and Jill Fryer.  Both will be based in the firm's Inverness office

Calum, a native Gaelic speaker originally from Sleat, qualified as a lawyer in 2007 and spent the first five years of his legal career working in the central belt, before returning to the Highlands in 2010 and then moving onto Harper Macleod earlier this month.
