Why they come back a second and third time.

We get deals done. Last year's value exceeded £450m. It sounds simple. But the main worry corporate clients have is that deal-making invariably takes longer and is more disruptive to their own business than they imagined. So, we're very clinical and systematic in the structure, planning and management of transactions.

Ours is very disciplined teamwork. That's the key to our growth; it may not be why people come to us in the first place, but it's certainly why they come back to us a second and third time.

And we have a different attitude. Some people can't get away from this exclusive notion that the corporate law function is somehow more important than the service. But we don't think of ourselves as professionals first. We see ourselves primarily as service providers where the most important things are quality, price and delivery.

We have a powerful philosophy. We spend a lot of time on training so that we empower junior people to get involved in a more meaningful way in transactions. That's a powerful philosophy: it means they progress quicker and become more productive because they're exposed earlier to larger challenges.

Full-suite and bespoke services.  Our client instructions have become more sophisticated. We've gone from being a provider of full-suite commercial services in the SME market to a point now where larger corporates are using us for bespoke advice.  

We work everywhere. We're driven primarily by the demands of Scottish-based clients. But that no longer confines us to the Scottish jurisdiction. Today, probably a third of our transactions are governed by English law. And we're not surprised to find ourselves handling deals in Continental Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific where we both select and manage counsel in local jurisdictions on behalf of our clients.
