What They Say About Us

Debt recovery

"Highly experienced partner Dawn McKenzie leads Harper Macleod LLP's recommended team. An impressive client list includes the Scottish Executive, InBev and the Child Support Agency. Major highlights include acting for the Scottish Executive on a full range of debt recovery instructions, and acting for North Lanarkshire Council on large-scale debt collection."

Insolvency and corporate recovery

"Harper Macleod LLP had a strong year with some impressive instructions. Highlights included acting for the Department of Trade and Industry on debt due by Coal Bed Methane as well as on the winding up of the company in the Court of Session. The Accountant in Bankruptcy, Liberty Capital and John Reid Joinery are all clients. Senior insolvency partner James Lloyd is a recognised name in the market."

Debt recovery

"Housed in the firm's recoveries and insolvency practice, Harper Macleod's debt recovery group has members based in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness. Lauded for their 'attention to detail,' they operate a 'smooth and efficient' service on behalf of a clientele that includes the Scottish Executive. The team receives much praise for its online resources and continues to attract an ever-greater number of instructions, which run the gamut of property, finance and consumer industry issues."

Restructuring / Insolvency

"Although it handles instructions from the likes of mid-tier IPs such as Kroll, Grant Thornton and Baker Tilly, the principal reason behind the team breaking into the rankings this year is its position on the panel of the Scottish Accountant in Bankruptcy. It advises her on the fulfilment of her duties as a trustee and regulator. Lawyers from the team are also admired by sources for their 'strong all-round skills' and understanding of corporate transactions, which have come to the fore recently following the purchase of insolvent businesses and their assets from administrators by some of the firm's clients. Many of the team's additional work highlights have been contentious in nature, illustrating the diversity of its client base. It advised Liberty Capital on the enforcement of floating charges against an insolvent company and ultimately the recovery of £1.2 million, and acted for a creditor in the successful removal and replacement of a liquidator in the insolvency of Teknek Electronics. The DTI also instructed the firm to investigate debt due by Coal Bed Methane followed by the winding-up of that company."
